A couple of years ago I took some time out to eat my way around Southeast Asia and beyond. It was brilliant in every way and, at times, a culinary revelation. I tried so many different foods and, with the help of some of the most hospitable people I’ve ever met, discovered plenty of new flavours which I now love. Meeting locals who were so passionate about their cuisine spurred me on to think about all of my favourite things and how I could turn them into my ultimate weakness – CAKE.
I returned home to the UK with a sketch book full of ideas and a determination to transfer them from my head to something I could hold, treasure and share with others. Food is so evocative and particular dishes, certain flavours, transport me back to happy occasions and remind me of people I treasure.
It’s been a labour of love and a huge learning curve to produce and publish this book by myself, but I now proudly present Cakeography. An accumulation of all of my most loved food and drink from childhood to present day, home and abroad, in delicious cake form. I hope you will enjoy reading and making the recipes as much as I enjoyed creating them.
